They say that there are only two things that are certain in this world — death and taxes. Personally, I think they should add debt to that list as well. Almost everyone has one form of debt or another. Be it a car loan, your home mortgage, and yes, some even have personal debts. But of course, the most popular one is through the use of credit cards. Getting into debt is pretty much inevitable nowadays.

With consumer credit being given out like nothing, people are tempted to spend it. Some people need this for the instant gratification, leading to the buy now, worry later mentality which is probably one of the reasons why credit card debts are very commonplace. Hidden behind the convenience of these little plastic devils is a world of pain from the interest — if you are late in paying your bills, that is.

And once you start getting into debt and not worry about it, that’s where it becomes even more dangerous. Given the exorbitant interest rates, you could be digging yourself an even deeper hole if you don’t settle your credit card bills immediately. Before you know it, the charges will keep on piling and the amount of money that you owe will balloon into an incredibly big amount. Now, this does not mean that this is the end of the world since you will end up paying them for the rest of your lives. There are ways to get out of debt. They simplest would be simply filing for bankruptcy. After all you assets have been liquidated, you start off with a clean slate. But it’s the starting up again that is quite difficult. Another very popular option nowadays is debt consolidation. Lumping together your existing loans helps you leverage to get better interest rates. And this is also a booming industry given the number of consolidation companies coming up and the amount of people heavily in debt.
